Bears Begin Four-Match Road Swing this Weekend

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's soccer squad will hit the road, traveling to Montgomery, Ala. to face the Alabama State Hornets this Friday, Sept 14, beginning at 8 p.m. The Bears will then head to Kennesaw, Ga. to matchup with the Kennesaw State Owls at 6 p.m. on Sunday (9/16).

SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
Friday's matchup will be the second time Mercer has faced Alabama State. In their lone meeting, the Bears blanked the Hornets, 4-0, at Bear Field (9/18/11). Kennesaw State owns a 9-3-1 advantage over Mercer. The Owls took a 1-0 decision in Macon last season (8/27/17).

NOTABLES

The Bears' 2-1 victory over Jacksonville State (9/9/18), marked Head Coach Tony Economopoulos' 70^th career win at Mercer. Economopoulos became the winningest coach in program history earlier this season when Mercer shutout Davidson (8/31/18), 3-0.
Mercer is second in the Southern Conference and is ninth in the country in goals scored, netting 21 on the season. Mercer is also second in the conference in total points (53).
Sophomore forward Abigial Zoeller is first in the in league in total shots (33), second in goals (5) and is second in points (12).
Heading into Friday's matchup, Adcock is tied for third in the conference in assists (3).
Jordyn Ebert has seen 622 minutes in goal and has 28 saves, a .800 save percentage and a 1.01 goals against average.
Payton Jamieson has also seen action in between the posts the past two matches, allowing one goal and earning seven saves in 145 minutes of play.
Mercer has shown their depth this season with 16 Bears seeing action in all eight outings.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Alabama State enters Friday's matchup seeking their first point of the season, holding an 0-4 record. Last time out (8/31/18), the Hornets fell to Presbyterian, 3-1. The Hornets have scored only one goal in three of their four outings. Gianna Guvot has started in between the posts in all of Alabama State's matches, grabbing 30 saves while allowing 12 goals. The Hornets are led by Jodie Smith who enters his 11^th year with the program.

SCOUTING THE OWLS
Kennesaw State enters the weekend currently riding a four-match winning streak, most recently defeating Georgia, 2-1. The Owls have netted 13 goals on the season and have recorded five shutouts. Erin Harris leads the team in points (9) with a trio of both goals and assists. Tiffany Sornpao has started in between the posts in all of Kennesaw State's matches, grabbing 43 saves while allowing eight goals. The Owls are led by Benji Walton who enters his third year with the program.

Following this weekend's road trip, the Bears will next travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. to face the Mocs of UTC, next Friday, Sept. 21, beginning at 7 p.m.
