Bears tally league’s second-most academic All-SoCon selections
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer University placed 45 student-athletes on the 2018 Fall Academic All-Southern Conference Team, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
Â
The Bears' 45 selections ranked second among all SoCon schools, trailing only ETSU (51). Four of Mercer's six fall athletic programs had at least five student-athletes on the academic all-conference team, highlighted by football's SoCon-best 19 selections. Women's soccer (12), men's soccer (6), volleyball (5), women's cross country (2) and men's cross country (1) rounded out Mercer's honorees.
Â
To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average at the conclusion of the fall semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions during the recently concluded campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
