MACON, Ga. – Mercer men's soccer player Trevor Martineau scored both goals for the Bears in a 2-1 victory over Winthrop on Tuesday night at Betts Stadium. Martineau has scored a goal in the last three contests.

Earlier on Tuesday, Martineau was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, scored his seventh goal of the season, which leads the SoCon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears (7-2-0) had its opportunities to score in the first half as they had 11 shots, with six being on target, but Mercer could not score. Winthrop (2-7-0) struggled to get offensive momentum going but got two shots on target, JR DeRose made the saves, and the game went scoreless into halftime.

Early in the second half, Chandler Gaunce looked to make a pass to his teammate, but Martineau stepped in front and took possession that led to a breakaway. Martineau found the back of the net, putting the Bears ahead, 1-0.

The game remained 1-0 until the 89^th minute of the match. Martineau scored his second goal of the game extending the Bears ahead 2-0. Leo Toledo Jr. and Liam Coxhead assisted Martineau's second goal. The Eagles scored a goal with 28 seconds left and Mercer came away with a 2-1 victory.
