Mercer improves to 3-1 in SoCon Play
MACON, Ga. – Mercer women's soccer team tallied its' 11th win of the season and third in SoCon action on Friday night when they defeated visiting Chattanooga, 2-1, at Betts Stadium. The Bears scored both goals in just over one minute of play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears came out attacking early as Amaya Evans and Abigail Zoeller had shots but did not score. Three minutes later, the Bears had a free kick, which Zoeller took and sent into the box, and Nicole Icen headed the ball into the back of the net putting the Bears ahead, 1-0.
Just over a minute later, the Bears added to its lead. On a free ball that was sent into the box, Evans came sliding in, got a foot on the ball, and scored the goal for the Bears putting Mercer ahead, 2-0.
Late in the first half, Grace Klippenstein had a throw-in and found Hollie Massey who scored trimming the lead down to 2-1, which would be the halftime score. In a physical second half, both teams had scoring chances. The goalies stood tall and combined for eight saves and the Bears came away with a 2-1 victory.
NOTABLES
The Bears return to Betts Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 13 when they host Samford in SoCon action. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. The match against Samford closes out a three-game homestand.

- The Mocs outshot the Bears 14-12 in the match.
