Men’s Soccer Drops Second Straight Match

Mercer returns to action on Saturday at Betts Stadium against Furman
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.  – The Mercer men's soccer team dropped its second straight contest on Tuesday night as ETSU defeated the Bears, 2-0.  This is the second time this season, the Bears have dropped back to back matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first two minutes of the game, Leo Toledo Jr. recorded the only shot on goal for the Bears in the half. Eighteen minutes later, the Bucs took the lead. Coming off a corner kick, Bradley Empson sent a ball into the box where the 6-foot-4 Hauk Andreas Fossen headed the ball home. The Bears had an opportunity to tie the game as they had the Bucs goalie off his line but could not capitalize. ETSU countered and scored the second goal of the match. Josh Salinas sent a pass into the box and Philip Hildebrandt deflected the ball into the goal taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Bears kept the pressure on the Bucs defense but Josh Perryman did not allow Mercer to score in the contest. Perryman recorded four saves to record his second shutout of the season.

NOTABLES
The Bears return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they host Furman in SoCon action. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Betts Stadium.

- Mercer outshot ETSU 15-12 in the match, but the Bears only had four shots on goal.
- Tuesday night's loss for the Bears was only the second match this season they were shutout. The only other time the Bears were shutout was Sept. 11 at South Carolina.
- The two goals scored by ETSU came in the first half of the contest.
- SoCon points leader Trevor Martineau did not record a shot in the match against ETSU.
- This was the first loss of the season for the Bears that came in regulation. The first four losses for the Bears all came in overtime.
