
Mercer Sweeps The Citadel in Saturday Match

First time a Mercer squad has swept back to back SoCon Teams in over 11 years
MACON, Ga.  – The Mercer Bears volleyball team went 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon against The Citadel in Hawkins Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One (25-20) | The Bears stared the set taking five of the first seven points behind two Annie Karle kills and a Nya Steele kill. The Bulldogs would work within one point of the Bears, but Mercer would go on a 5-2 run to pull ahead. Alexia Morey would end the set with a kill.

Set Two (25-23) | The second set would come down to the wire. It was back and forth throughout the whole match but the Bears would score three straight to take the match. Jaida Howell recorded a kill and Roberta Todd ended the set with a service ace.

Set Three (25-20) | The last set only had one tie in very beginning. Mercer would lead throughout the set entirety going on three 3-0 runs. Roberta Todd recorded three kills and Nya Steele recorded a block. Annie Karle would end the set and match with a kill from Nya Steele.

- This is the first time in over 11 seasons that Mercer has sweep two Southern Conference teams back to back.
- Nya Steele leads the team in assists, averaging 8.39 per set.
- Freshman Jaida Howell recorded a .316 hitting percentage on the match, only recording two errors.
- Megan Smith recorded 14 digs in today's match, bringing her season total to 248.
