Mercer will compete against Western Carolina and ETSU

MACON, Ga. – The Bears volleyball team will stay home to play Western Carolina and ETSU in weekend matchup. The Bears and Catamounts will play on Friday at 7 p.m. in Hawkins Arena, then Saturday against the Bucs at 6 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
The Bears and Catamounts have met 23 times, the Catamounts leading the series. The last time the two met was in 2018, the Bears winning the match in five sets. Mercer and ETSU have met 27 times, the Bucs taking the last match in straight sets.

NOTABLES

Freshman Jaida Howell is once again leading the SoCon in hitting percentage with .382 %.
Megan Smith leads the team in digs per set with 2.71.
Roberta Todd has recorded 154 kills in 54 set, which puts her in the lead on the team with 2.85 kills per set.

SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
Western Carolina is coming off a 3-2 win at Furman on Saturday. They are led by head coach Karen Clover who enters her ninth season with the Catamounts. They welcome back seven starters including outside hitter Merry Gebel who led the team in kills in the 2018 season. Western Carolina ended the 2018 season losing to No. 9 seed, The Citadel in the first round of the Southern Conference Championships.

SCOUTING THE BUCS
ETSU is coming off a 3-0 win against UNCG on Saturday. They will play Chattanooga Friday before coming to Macon. Benavia Jenkins was named the head coach in January after spending the past three seasons as the assistant coach at the University of South Florida. They welcome back Marija Popovic who led the team in digs (344) and aces (28).
