Bears sign Samuel Barrow of Stratford Academy
MACON, Ga. – Head men's tennis coach Eric Hayes has announced the signing of local standout Samuel Barrow to a national letter of intent. Barrow has been a four-year member of the Stratford Academy tennis team.
"I am really excited to sign Samuel," remarked head coach Eric Hayes. "He has had great training under Craig Jones from IdleHour Club and Jaime Kaplan at Stratford. He shares the same goals that our program does nationally and I can't wait to get started with him. It is great to get another Macon player!"
During his high school career, he has been the No.1 singles player at Stratford Academy and is undefeated, going 52-0 in his first three years (2016-18). He has helped lead Stratford Academy to three State Championships over his first three years (2016-18). Barrow has been named GHSA All-Area over his first three seasons at Stratford Academy.
Besides playing high school tennis, Barrow has also participated in the USTA. He has qualified twice for Super Nationals in Kalamazoo. The first year he went, he won two rounds of singles. He won a national level 3 match in B16s. He was one of three boys 16s selected to represent Georgia at the Southern Cup. At the Southern Cup, he won six out of the eight matches (singles and doubles) he played in.
Barrow is the No. 2 player in the state of Georgia in B16s. He achieved the No. 9 ranking in the south in his first year of 18s.
In doubles action, he won three rounds at the Super Nationals in Kalamazoo. He had wins over the 26th seed, and the third seed. Barrow won the Southern Level B18s and won the Georgia Qualifier B16s for the second year in a row.
Outside of tennis, he has been a member of the Beta Club, Honors, High Honors and Faculty Recognition at Stratford Academy. Barrow picked Mercer over other Southern Conference schools.
