Mercer Takes Undefeated SoCon Record to Greenville

Bears will take on Furman tomorrow at 2 p.m.
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Women's Basketball team will square off with Furman tomorrow at 2 p.m. inside Timmons Arena. The contest will be the second of three consecutive road games for the Bears. Mercer enters the game with a 14-7 overall record, including a perfect 6-0 in Southern Conference play.

Not Slowing Down
Amanda Thompson delivered yet another monster double-double in the Mercer win on Thursday night in Spartanburg, S.C. The senior captain finished the game with 21 points and 16 rebounds as the Bears squeaked by the Terriers, 81-79. Thompson secured her 12th double-double of the season by halftime with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The North Carolina native filled the stat sheets yet again in the second half with six points and six rebounds for her fourth 20-point outing of the season. The North Carolina native has dominated in Southern Conference action this season, averaging 16.7 points and 13.2 rebounds per game.

She's BAAAACK
KeKe Calloway will step into Timmons Arena on Saturday for the first time since her historical night a season ago in Greenville. On Jan. 6, 2018, Calloway netted a career-high 40 points, knocking down an NCAA-tying 12 three pointers. The Georgia native had fans of both teams jumping as she continued to pour in shot after shot. Calloway is coming off a 20-point outing where she knocked down four threes at Wofford on Thursday.

SoCon Supremacy
Mercer has won 26 consecutive regular-season SoCon showdowns dating back to Feb. 4, 2017 when the run started with a 71-56 win over ETSU. Since joining the league, Mercer is 61-16 against SoCon opponents, including 53-13 in the regular season. The last team to defeat Mercer in the regular season was Chattanooga on Feb. 2, 2017. The Bears continue to run the SoCon awards as well, claiming seven of the 12 player of the week honors this season. Shannon Titus most recently grabbed the award, joining Amanda Thompson and KeKe Calloway as the three Bears to claim the award.

Mercer earned a hard-fought 81-79 victory over Wofford on Thursday night, escaping with the win following Shannon Titus' game-winning layup with four seconds left. The two squads fought tooth-and-nail to start the game with Mercer trailing Wofford 22-21 after the first 10 minutes of play. KeKe Calloway scored eight of her 20 points in the first quarter for the Bears. The second stanza belonged to Mercer, outscoring Wofford 27-19, including 12-2 over a three-minute span. The Bears held the 48-41 advantage at halftime as Amanda Thompson concluded the first half with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Terriers claimed the third quarter 23-16, tying the game up at 64 apiece. The two squads went back-and-forth in the final quarter, with Mercer holding the largest lead at four points. The Terriers tied the game up at 79 apiece before Titus delivered the go-ahead layup. Wofford had a good look at sending the game into overtime, but the attempt harmlessly fell out of the cylinder.
