
Mercer Rallies from Brink of Defeat to Best Mocs

Bears defeat Chattanooga, 4-3, in thrilling SoCon win
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Mercer men's tennis team rallied back from the brink of defeat to best Chattanooga, 4-3, in Southern Conference play at the UTC Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
Mercer improved to 9-9 overall and 2-1 in SoCon action with the near-four-hour victory and dropped the Mocs to 10-9 (1-2). Trailing 3-2 in match points, Mercer earned singles wins from David Georgadze and Nicolas Guillon on courts five and two to top Chattanooga in comeback fashion.
Georgadze defeated Pablo Llebeili, 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-4) on court five to tie the match at 3-3. With Llebeili leading 5-4 and serving 40-30 in the game, Georgadze fended off defeat and rallied for a third-set victory.
The focus then shifted to Guillon in the final singles match of the day on court two. After dropping the first set, 6-4, Guillon rallied with a 7-6 (7-2) second-set win and a 6-4, match-clinching, third set.
Mercer opened the day by winning the doubles point as Olivier Stuart and Guillon defeated Simon Bustamante and Kerim Hyatt, 6-1, on court one, and Carver Arant and Fernando Guardia bested Llebeili and Jacob Marshall, 6-4, on court three.
Stuart earned the Bears' other singles win by defeating Niklas Gerdes in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

Mercer will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to face the Volunteers on Sunday, March 31.
