Mercer Lacrosse Falls to Bellarmine in Home Contest

Bears' halftime lead not enough in SoCon loss
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team (1-8, 1-2 SoCon) fell to Bellarmine, 16-13, in its third Southern Conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon at Five Star Stadium.
Mercer led, 9-8, at halftime but fell as the visiting Knights (1-8, 1-2 SoCon) scored eight second-half goals to earn their first win of the year.
Mercer grabbed the early lead after one goal apiece from Nick Rockefeller and Sean Goldsmith. After the Titans quickly tied the game at 2-2, the Bears' Pat Marks and Rockefeller extended the Orange and Black's lead, 4-2. Goldsmith started the second period with his second goal of the match. Bellarmine put together a 6-3 run to tie the contest, 8-8, before Michael Quinn and John Tarver netted one goal each over the final three minutes to take the halftime lead. Tarver's goal was unassisted with 17 seconds left before the buzzer.
Bellarmine tied the match, 9-9, at the 13:49 mark of the third quarter and did not look back, scoring four straight to take a 12-9 lead. Goals by Tarver, Marks and Patrick McCarthy brought Mercer back to a 12-12 tie before another Knights run put the contest away.
