Mercer Downs Chippewas with Second-Half Outburst

Bears improve to 2-0 in SoCon play with 19-12 victory
MACON, Ga. – Mercer notched 13 second-half goals and defeated Central Michigan, 19-12, in Southern Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Five Star Stadium.

The Bears (5-6, 2-0 SoCon) remained undefeated in conference play with their second win of the weekend. Central Michigan dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-1 in the SoCon.

A five-goal run by Mercer in the second half broke an 8-8 tie and put the Bears ahead, 13-8, with 19 minutes left on the clock. Kelly Hagerty, Catie Snee, Eva Thorn, Hailey Rhatigan and Lily Morin all tallied goals during the run. The Chippewas never came within four goals from that point on, as Hagerty and Rhatigan tallied five of Mercer's final six goals.

A difficult first half saw Mercer enter the intermission with a 7-6 deficit. The Chippewas led by as many as four goals (6-2) with 11:10 left in the opening period, but a steady comeback by Mercer tightened the gap. The Bears scored four of the final five goals in the first half.

Iseabal Cryne logged all 60 minutes between the pipes and tallied eight saves.
