Mercer Falls 9-8 At Mount St. Mary’s

Late goal with less than 30 seconds remaining does Bears in
EMMITSBURG, Md. – Mercer fell victim to a late goal by Mount St. Mary's as the Bears lost a 9-8 heart-breaker in men's lacrosse action Friday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium. The Mount scored with just 27 seconds remaining to clinch the victory.
How It Happened
Mercer jumped out to an early 3-0 in the opening period on goals from Nick Rockefeller, Mikey Ewing, and Tim Kroneberger. Mount St. Mary's got on the board at the 2:39 mark on a score from Joe Bethke before Mercer's Michael Quinn scored to give the Bears a 4-1 advantage after one.
Rockefeller scored again early in the second period to increase the Bears' lead to 5-1. Mount St. Mary's Chris DiPretoro scored with 11:53 remaining to slice the lead to 5-2. Mercer's Patrick Marks scored with 4:58 left in the opening half and the Bears were up 6-2 at the half time break.
The Mount came out strong in the second half, scoring back-to-back goals to cut the margin to 6-4. Quinn scored again to extend the lead to 7-4. Mount St. Mary's then scored four unanswered goals to give the home team an 8-7 lead early in the fourth period. Quinn scored his third goal of the game with 1:03 left in regulation to knot the score at 8-8.
The Mount's Brendan Doyle scored the game-winner with just 27 seconds left to provide the 9-8 win.
