Bears Set for Title-Game Clash with Furman

Mercer back in SoCon Tournament title game for fourth straight year
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Top-seeded Mercer will take on second-seeded Furman in the title game of the 2019 Ingles Southern Conference Women's Basketball Championship presented by General Shale at noon on Sunday at the U.S. Cellular Center.

The SoCon's crown and its automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament will be on the line Sunday when the Bears (24-7) and Paladins (19-12) clash. Mercer, the tournament's defending champion, has won 16 consecutive games and will be playing in its fourth straight SoCon Tournament title game.

Sunday's title game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and Nexstar. SERIES HISTORY VS. FURMAN
The Bears are 15-4 all-time against Furman, including a regular-season sweep this year. Mercer is the winner of the last 10 head-to-head meetings between the two programs; the Bears bested Furman by 15 points in Greenville on Feb. 2 and held on for a 66-62 win at home on Feb. 28. Mercer and Furman have met once before in the SoCon Tournament. The Bears defeated Furman, 64-50, in the 2016 semifinal round to reach the title game.

SCOUTING FURMAN
The second-seeded Furman Paladins enter the SoCon Tournament title game with a 19-12 overall record, having defeated Samford in the quarterfinals and Chattanooga in the semifinals over the last two days in Asheville. Sunday will mark Furman's first appearance in the championship game since 2000, when current Paladin head coach Jackie Carson starred as a player for Furman.

Furman leads the SoCon in field goal percentage defense. Le'Jzae Davidson is the team's leader in points per game (17.1).
