Bears Suffer First SoCon Loss at Furman

Mercer falls, 13-11, on the road
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Mercer women's lacrosse team (6-7, 3-1 SoCon) suffered its first Southern Conference loss of the season, dropping a 13-11 match at Furman on Sunday afternoon.

The Bears led, 9-8, with 22 minutes left in the contest before Furman scored five of the match's last seven goals to take the conference win.

Caroline Kerr found the back of the net for her 10th goal of the year to start the match. The teams proceeded to trade goals as Furman tied it up before Hailey Rhatigan regained the lead just one minute later. A four-goal run by the Paladins helped them take a 5-2 lead before Mercer later scored the final two goals of the half – Eva Thorn and Kelly Hagerty – to cut its deficit to 6-5.

The Bears opened the second half with three consecutive goals to take the lead before Furman scored seven goals down the stretch to defend its home turf.

» Hailey Rhatigan led with a game-high five goals off 11 shots. The freshman added three draw controls.
» Eva Thorn (3), Kelly Hagerty (2) and Caroline Kerr (1) all recorded goals as well.
