Men’s soccer, men’s golf, women’s soccer and beach volleyball were all honored
INDIANAPOLIS – The Mercer University men's soccer, women's soccer, men's golf and beach volleyball programs each received NCAA Public Recognition Awards, announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Â
The award honors teams for posting multi-year Academic Progress Rates (APR) in the top 10 percent of Division I squads in each respective sport. Mercer's three Southern Conference teams – men's soccer, women's soccer and men's golf – are tied for the third most by any school in the conference (beach volleyball is an associate member of ASUN Conference). The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years.
Â
This is the first time that the men's soccer program has received the honors – the Bears also won the SoCon Championship that season and advanced to the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament. Men's golf has now been awarded the recognition four years in a row – tied for the third-longest active streak in the SoCon. Women's soccer has been awarded in three consecutive years while beach volleyball has earned the honor in each of the last two years.
Â
APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 8. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the ongoing academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
