Mercer Drops Tough Match at No. 10 Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.–. Mercer women's soccer suffered its first loss of the 2019 season, as No. 10 Tennessee pulled away with a 3-0 victory Sunday night at Regal Soccer Stadium.
The 10th-ranked Vols controlled the ball most of the first half, but the tenacious Bears defense only allowed one goal to get through. It was in the 21stminute when Vols midfielder MA Vignola put the ball in the back of the net to make the score 1-0.
The second half saw much of the same, but Tennessee was able to score two late goals to seal the win. In the 77thminute the No. 10 Vols added another with a goal from Claudia Dipasupil and then one more from Alicia Donely in the 83rd.
Jordyn Ebert faced 23 shots, 11 of which were on goal, and steered away 8. The Bears offense had a few good chances to score the equalizer before the Vols pulled away in the end.

Notables
- The Vols defense held Mercer without a shot throughout the entire match. Last time the Bears were held without a shot was against No.3 Florida State back on Sept. 15, 2016
- This is the second time Mercer and Tennessee have met, the Vols taking both matches
- Tony Economopoulos is now 2-7 against SEC teams. Economopoulos' Bears' took out Alabama in 2013 and Auburn in 2015.
