Icen’s Hat Trick Leads Bears’ Blowout of Davidson
9/1/2019 4:35:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Mercer blew past the Wildcats
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats (2-1-0) scored early in the eighth minute but it was all Bears (3-1-0) from that point on, paced by Icen's first three career goals. Icen's first goal was off a rebound from the crossbar, the second assisted by Abigail Zoeller and the third assisted by Sarah Adcock.
Zoeller assisted on three goals on the afternoon, helping Megan Delmonico (27') and Amaya Evans (49') score as well. Logan Culver converted a penalty kick in the 40th minute, her first of the season. Defensively the Bears held Davidson to just three shots on the afternoon, all three coming in the first half.
NOTABLES
- Nicole Icen's hat trick marked her first three career goals – she had previously only taken one shot on goal in her career.
- Junior Abigail Zoeller tied a career high with three assists in the match. She also assisted on three goals at Alabama State in 2018.
- Mercer tied a team high with 17 shots and set a new season best with ten shots on goal.
- The six goals are the most by a Mercer team since a 7-0 shutout of USC-Aiken in last year's season opener.
UP NEXT
