Bears Set to Host Mercer Gridiron Classic

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's and women's tennis teams will host the Mercer Gridiron Classic Friday through Sunday Sept. 20-22 at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Teams from across the southeast region of the U.S. will be on hand as the Bears compete on their home courts for the first time this fall season.

Over 170 players will compete in the event coming from 16 different colleges. The tournament will have three singles draws (A, B, C) and two doubles draws (A, B). Singles action will kick off the tournament beginning Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. followed by doubles play.

Mercer, UNF, Alabama State, Kennesaw State, Georgia Southern, and Troy are sending both men's and women's teams to Macon for the three-day tournament.

FAU, Clemson, Florida Gulf Coast, North Carolina, Winthrop, and Stetson will be competing on the men's side. Florida Southern, Belmont and UAB, will join the field on the women's side.

Following this weekend's action, the men's tennis team travels to Malibu, Calif. To participate in the Oracle ITA Masters on Sept. 26-29. The women's squad returns to action on Oct. 11 when they participate in the Georgia Southern Fall Classic.
