Evans Goal Lifts Mercer Past Evansville

Mercer records third straight shutout
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – With 23 seconds left on the clock, Amaya Evans scored the lone goal lifting Mercer women's soccer past Evansville on Friday night. With the 1-0 victory, the Bears have recorded three straight shutouts and improve to 7-1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears and Purple Aces both had scoring chances in the first half of the match. The Bears had the first opportunity to score as they had a corner kick that was headed in but Mercer was called for a foul. Later in the half, Evansville had the same opportunity and had a goal waved off. Evansville had another scoring chance in the first half when Jayme-Lee Hunter had a penalty kick that was saved by Jordyn Ebert.

The game remained scoreless late in the second half. The Purple Aces were called for a foul at the top of the box. After the free-kick, Amaya Evans found the loose ball in front of the goal and scored the first goal of the game with 23 seconds remaining in the contest. The goal ended up being the game winner and Mercer won its sixth straight and improved to 7-1 on the season.
