
Basketball Doubleheader Announced for Saturday

The men will host Columbia International, and the women will play Covenant
 MACON, Ga. – Less than 24 hours after announcing the cancelation of the men's basketball game at Elon, Mercer Athletics officials announced a doubleheader for Saturday.
The men's squad will battle Columbia International at 10 a.m. while the women will play Covenant College at 2 p.m.Tickets for Saturday's contests are on-sale for just $1 and can be purchased by calling (478) 301-5217 or clicking here (men's) and here (women's).
Season ticket holders will receive their tickets to Saturday's contest as part of their package. Tickets will not be mailed out. Ticket holders will be able to pick up their tickets at the box office on the day of the game or they can utilize their digital tickets through their Mercer ticket account.
The Bears last met the Columbia International Rams in Hawkins Arena for Mercer's 2019-20 home opener. The Bears picked up an 84-76 win for Greg Gary's first victory at the helm of the Orange & Black. A pair of seniors from last season's squad, Djordje Dimitrijevic and Ethan Stair, led the Bears in that contest, combining for 41 points. James Glisson III contributed six points and was a force on the glass, pulling down nine rebounds.
This season, Mercer is off to its best start since 2015-16 with a spotless 3-0 record. The Bears are receiving 31 votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Poll and recently defeated the sixth-ranked team in the poll, Georgia State, 86-69. Mercer has had four players score in double figures in each victory.
Columbia International competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and enters the contest with Mercer sporting a 3-2 record. The Rams are coming off a 110-108 double-overtime road loss to conference opponent Truett-McConnell. Corey Benton set the program's single-game scoring record with 48 points on 15-of-28 shooting. Benton also grabbed six rebounds and handed out six assists. Benton averages a team-high 27.5 points per game.
The Mercer women are coming off a 13-point loss at Clemson on Wednesday and are 1-2 on the young season. Susie Gardner's Bears defeated Tennessee State in the second game of the season behind a stellar 25-point, 19-rebound performance from Jaron Dougherty. Dougherty shot 12-of-23 from the floor and also blocked four shots while nabbing three steals. Amoria Neal-Tysor, the reigning College Sports Madness SoCon Player of the Week, leads the Bears with an average of 18.0 points per game. Jada Lewis joins Neal-Tysor in double figures (14.7) while Dougherty is contributing a double-double per game (14.7 ppg, 11.0 rpg).
Covenant has not played thus far in 2020-21 and is coming off a 10-16 campaign last season. The Scots are NCAA Division III members and compete in the USA South. Covenant's offense primarily flowed through the two-headed monster of Hannah Monday and Ruthie Moore. Monday averaged 12.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest while Moore contributed 11.1 points and 7.3 boards per game.
Both games can be seen live on ESPN+. The men's contest can be heard live on the Mercer Sports Network (100.9 The Creek, SportsMic) while the women's contest will be on SportsMic. The Voice of the Bears, Rick Cameron, will be on the call for both contests.
