Rhatigan Leads Bears Past Bulldogs

Mercer beat Gardner-Webb 20-6
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Mercer women's lacrosse beat the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs, 20-6, in Friday night's matchup at Spangler Stadium.
Eva Thorn would get the Bears on the board first with an unassisted goal less than two minutes in the game. Carmella Fischer would score the next goal 31 seconds later. Over the next three minutes, four goals would be scored, two from the Runnin' Bulldogs and two from Mercer's Thorn and Hailey Rhatigan. The Black and Orange would go on a 6-1 run to end the first half, 10-3.

Rhatigan opened the scoring for the Bears in the second half with an unassisted goal 2:26 into it. Thorn would follow with a free position goal, then a goal from Chloe Schaeffer assisted by Rhatigan. Mercer's next goal would come 4:03 later when Schaeffer would score again, assisted by Katie Martin. The Black and Orange would score six more times before the game concluded. Caroline Kerr would score her first of the season and freshman Shannon Urey would score her first two of her collegiate career. The Bears would win the game 20-6.

Mercer will continue their three game road stand in Buies Creek, N.C. when they take on the Campbell Fighting Camels. The game is set for 1 p.m. at Barker-Lane Stadium.
