Mercer Welcomes Cal for Home Opener

Bears will faceoff for the second time
MACON, Ga. – Mercer women's lacrosse welcomes the California Golden Bears on Friday. The matchup will be at Five Star Stadium at 5 p.m.
Prior to the game, Mercer will unveil their 2019 Southern Conference Championship and 2019 NCAA Tournament banners.
This is the second meeting between the Bears and the Golden Bears. The first meeting was during the 2018 season in Berkeley, Calif. Cal took the game, 18-8.Â

ABOUT THE BEARS
Hailey Rhatigan's 12 goals this season puts her 24 goals away from the century mark in her career. She would become the youngest player in Mercer history to hit the milestone. Rhatigan also ranks fifth in goals per game in her career nationally. Iseabal Cryne has a career total of 330 saves, ranking 24th among all NCAA Division I women's lacrosse players. Senior Michaela Lucas has a career average of 1.11 caused turnovers in game, which places her 18th in the country. This is only the second meeting between the Bears; Cal took the first game, 18-8. Mercer leads the Southern Conference in 10 statistical categories-goals/game, assists/game, groundballs/game, points/game, draw controls/game, shots/game, caused turnovers/game, goals against average, shutouts/game, save percentage, and shots on goal/game. Eva Thorn and Hailey Rhatigan are both three points away from hitting 100 in their careers.

SCOUTING CALIFORNIA
Cal enters the contests with a 0-2 overall record. They are coming off a 17-7 loss against No. 8 Virginia. Sophomore Quinnlyn Mason led the Golden Bears with two goals. Five other players registered goals in the game. Goalie Makayla Ward has recorded 24 saves on the season. Cal fininished the 2019 season with a record 7-12 record, 3-7 in the Pac-12. This season, the Golden Bears are ranked in the top 25 nationally in two categories. They are 24th in turnovers per game and 22nd in clearing percentage. Brooke Eubanks is entering her sixth season at the helm of the Golden Bears. In her tenure, she has registered an overall record of 25-64.
