
Mercer Improves to 3-2 in OT Thriller

Bears defeat Eagles in Saturday afternoon matchup
MACON, GA. – Mercer women's lacrosse defeated the Winthrop Eagles, 16-15, in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Five Star Stadium.
Winthrop would open up the scoring with two quick goals. Catie Snee got the Bears on the board with an assist from Katie Ryan. Mercer went on a 4-2 run with goals from Hailey Rhatigan, Katie Ryan, Evan Thorn, and Lily Morin to put the Bears up, 5-3.
Winthrop would tie the contest at five midway through the first half before Morin opened up another run from the Black and Orange. This run included two goals from Rhatigan and one from Shannon Urey, Merced led at the half, 9-5.

Thorn would score the first goal of the second half 12 seconds in. Winthrop went on the games longest run, scoring the next seven goals, to take a two-goal lead, 12-10. Mercer would claw their way back and tie the game at 15 with goals from Morin, Erin Degnan, Rhatigan, Thorn, and Katie Martin.
Neither team was able to break the tie and score the game-winnner in regulation. With 1:57 left in overtime, Martin scored the game winner with an assist from Rhatigan. The Bears defeated the Eagles, 16-15, to improve to 3-2 overall.
NEXT UP
Mercer will head to Kennesaw State for a midweek, I-75 battle. The game is set for 5 p.m.
