
Bears Place Three on All-SoCon Teams

Mercer earned three All-SoCon honors
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer men's basketball team saw three of its players recognized by the Southern Conference on Wednesday when the league announced its annual postseason honors.
In the Coaches All-Southern Conference Teams, Djordje Dimitrijevic and Ethan Stair garnered Second Team All-SoCon honors, while Kamar Robertson earned All-Freshman Team accolades. In the SoCon Sports Media Association (SCSMA) All-SoCon Teams, Dimitrijevic was named to the first team, Stair to the second team and Robertson to the All-Freshman team. "I am proud of both Djordje and Ethan for being selected as Second Team All-Southern Conference by the Coaches in the conference," remarked head coach Greg Gary. "They both have put in a lot of work and showed great improvement throughout the year."
Dimitrijevic earned his first postseason recognition from the SoCon. He appeared in 29 of the 31 games the Bears played this season, starting in all 29 games. He led the Bears in scoring averaging a career-high 17.0 points per game, which ranked fourth in the SoCon. Dimitrijevic led the team with 66 made three-pointers and has made a three-pointer in 28 straight games, which leads the SoCon. He scored a career-high 34 points on Jan. 11 at Western Carolina. Against VMI and Samford, Dimitrijevic hit six three-pointers in back-to-back games, which set a career-high. Besides scoring, Dimitirjevic set a career-high with 10 assists in a contest. He finished the season with 107 assists and averaged 3.1 assists per game, the fourth most in the SoCon. On the defensive side of the ball, he finished fourth in the SoCon in steals per game (1.5). He collected his first career double-double on Nov. 15 in a win over Kennesaw State. Dimitrijevic was named SoCon Player of the Week on Jan. 21.
"With Djordje being in the top 10 in scoring average (4th), field goal percentage (10th), free throw percentage (3rd), assists per game (4th) and steals per game (4th), he is very deserving of this selection," said Gary.
Stair had a career year for the Bears has he earned his first postseason recognition from the SoCon. Stair started all 31 games for Mercer this season as he put up career numbers. He averaged 14.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-5 guard led the Bears in rebounding and finished second in the SoCon. His scoring average was ninth best in the Southern Conference. He grabbed a career-high 23 rebounds on Feb. 26 at the Citadel. For the season, he has collected 287 rebounds, the sixth best mark in program history. He scored a career-high 28 points at Georgia Southern when he hit a career-best six three-pointers. He entered the season with two career double-doubles and tallied 12 as a senior. He earned two SoCon Player of the Week honors this season.
"Ethan also was very deserving of his selection, finishing in the top-10 in the Southern Conference in scoring (9th), rebounds per game (2nd) and field goal percentage (5th)," remarked coach Gary.
Kamar Robertson represented Mercer on the All-Freshman Team. The Alpharetta native is the first Bear to earn All-Freshman Team honors since the 2014-15 season when Stephon Jelks was honored. Robertson appeared in 27 games for the Bears. While leading the offense, he finished the season with 50 assists and averaged 6.4 points per game. He collected career-highs in points (16) and rebounds (11) on Feb. 22 at Chattanooga for the first double-double of his career.
"Kamar showed outstanding improvement throughout the season, and I could not be happier for him," stated Gary.
Mercer, which went 17-14 overall and 11-7 in SoCon play this season, claimed the No. 4 seed in the Ingles SoCon Basketball Championship presented by General Shale and will face No. 5 seed Western Carolina (18-11, 10-8) in the quarterfinals on Saturday, March 7, at 2:30 p.m.
