Lacey Fears was a three-time All-ASUN First Team selection
ATLANTA – Former Mercer women's golfer Lacey Fears was voted the ASUN Women's Golfer of the Decade on Monday afternoon, the league office announced.
Of the 22 players named to the conference's All-Decade Team, the fans voted on who would be named the Player of the Decade on Facebook by "Liking" the photo they felt deserved the award. Fears collected 258 likes, more than twice that of Kennesaw State's Medy Thavong who finished second in the voting.
Fears was a three-time All-ASUN First Team selection for the Bears and added ASUN All-Academic Team honors as a senior. She was named ASUN Golfer of the Week six times throughout her career. The Bonaire, Ga., native finished in the top-2 on the team in average score all four years, including leading the squad as a junior and senior. Fears lowered her average score every year while at Mercer, capping her impressive four seasons in the Orange and Black with a 73.92 average over 25 rounds as a senior.Â
She produced a pair of top-5 finishes at the conference tournament in 2012 (2nd, 213) and 2014 (T-5th, 224), with her best finish at the ASUN Championships coming as a sophomore in 2012. That season, Fears earned runner-up honors after forcing a two-hole playoff against eventual winner Gabriella Wahl of ETSU. Her 213 54-hole score ranks third lowest in conference history. As a senior, she competed at the NCAA East Regional, hosted by Florida State, where she tied for 55th after shooting a 223.
