Cummings Named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

He had two consecutive games with more than 20 points
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – With two consecutive 20-point games under his belt and a stellar 3.9 cumulative GPA, guard Ross Cummings was honored as the first Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week this season.
Cummings (Dickson, Tenn. / Creek Wood HS) reached a pair of milestones in a nationally televised game against Wofford on Dec. 29. A first half three-pointer gave him 200 career three-pointers made, while his layup with 5:45 remaining in the game made him the 43rd player in Mercer men's basketball to score 1,000 or more points. Cummings finished the game 7-of-12 from the floor with five three-pointers. The redshirt senior guard made two of his three free throw attempts.
On Jan. 2, Cummings reached 20 points for the second consecutive contest, pouring in 22 points as the Bears took on the Furman Paladins in Greenville. Cummings was 6-of-14 from the floor and knocked down four triples. His 22 points moved him into 40th all-time among the program's top scorers. He currently has 1,026 points to his credit.
In the two games used for nomination purposes, Cummings averaged 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Through 10 games, Cummings is leading the team in scoring with an average of 16.6 points per contest. His has hit exactly 50 percent of his shots (54-of-108) and has connected on 33 three-pointers.
