Mercer uses two second-half scores to take down Terriers
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer men's soccer team wrapped up the 2021 regular season with a trip to South Carolina's upstate to take on the Wofford Terriers, and finished with a 3-1 victory. With the result, the Bears will conclude the campaign with a 8-7-1 record, and a 4-1-1 mark in SoCon competition.
Following a back-and-forth opening 16 minutes of the contest, Kadeem Agard commenced the scoring in the 17th minute when he shot it from just outside the six-yard box to the right of Joshua Old, Wofford's keeper.
Unfortunately, one goal was not going to be enough to put away the Terriers (4-10-1, 1-4-1 SoCon) in this one.
In the 57th minute, the hosts got onto the board for the tying goal when Mitchell Myers assisted Brandon Oddy on the strike past Trevor McMullen. Four minutes later, Liam Coxhead scored to regain the Mercer lead when he sent it in from nearly 18 yards out from goal. The Mercer lead doubled in the 62nd when Michael Ille scored from a Dylan Gaither assist for the two-goal cushion and put the match well out of Wofford's reach.
McMullen finished the contest with three saves in 90 minutes of action.
Four Bears - Kadeem Agard, Sekou Agard, Kevin Kim and Nick Wanzer – all tallied a pair of shots on the night.
Mercer ended the regular season having won two of their last three road contests and four of their last five.
Up next for the Bears is an opponent to be determined in the SoCon tournament. When finalized, we will release it to everyone.
