Bears Ready to Face the Billikens

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Mercer Bears will play their first game of the 2021 Cancun Challenge, stateside, as they travel to St. Louis to face the Billikens in Chaifetz Arena. This will be the 13th year of the men's Cancun Challenge. It's the ninth time the event has been played at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. Since its inception in 2008, the tournament has hosted 80-plus D-I teams from 28 conferences, while playing over 100 games in Mexico.

Twitter Updates: @MercerMBB LAST TIME OUT/NEXT UP The Bears are coming off a 28-point margin, 78-50, victory over Life University in an official home opening match on Tuesday night. It's their first official win of the 2021-22 campaign. Three players reached double-digits in scoring with Alvarez (17), Johnson (15), Robertson (15). The ball was moved around effectively as four Bears had three assists. Johnson shot an impressive and career high 8-for-9 from the free throw line, including a 1-for-2 tally from three-point range. Alvarez has either made or assisted on 46 percent of all Mercer field goals over the last three games. Alvarez has 23 field goals and 15 assists in those games. Mercer is 0-1 against Saint Louis. SERIES HISTORY The Bears and Billikens are set at 0-1 in the series with Saint Louis on top. In their first meeting, Saint Louis won 86-52.
SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS Saint Louis lost 90-74 at Memphis in its most recent game. However, Saint Louis has won its last three home games, scoring an average of 103 points while giving up only 53. The Saint Louis defense has forced opponents into turnovers on an effective 28.3 percent of all possessions, which is the 21st-highest rate in the country. The Mercer offense will look to control more of the ball this matchup to limit its turnovers.
