Bears, Runnin' Bulldogs set to square off
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's basketball team will continue on its longest road swing of the season, meeting the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.

Mercer was picked by both the league coaches and media to cut down the nets in March in Asheville, N.C. From the perspective of the coaches, the Bears collected five of the eight first-place votes, and eight of the 15 from the media.

There will be plenty of new faces at Hawkins Arena for the 2021-22 season, as Mercer welcomes eight new student-athletes – Kinley Fisher, Endia Banks, Erin Houpt, Erin Gutierrez, Kassidy Jones, Nigeria Harkless, Ashlee Locke and Lauren McNamara-Clement – to campus.
Last Time Out
No. 19 Georgia handed Mercer their first loss of the season after a 67-52 scoreline at the Lady Bulldogs' Stegeman Coliseum. Amoria Neal-Tysor's 19 points paced the Bears' offense. Neal-Tysor and Endia Banks both collected six defensive boards in the effort. Mercer capitalized on turnovers, turning Georgia mistakes into 16 points. Georgia came back from down in the first quarter and never looked back. Reigining SoCon player of the week, Jaron Dougherty, added 14 points and a pair of rebounds.

The hosts are looking for win No. 1 of the season. In their last three, they have dropped double-digit decisions to Vanderbilt, Georgia and ECU, respectively. Jhessyka Williams leads the Runnin' Bulldogs with 50 points (16.7 ppg) and 13 defensive boards. A season ago, Williams led the Big South in both steals and steals per contest, and was just recently tabbed as the league's player of the week.
