Last Time Out
Folllowing a back-and-forth first half, Mercer used a 25-point third quarter to pull away from Gardner-Webb on Sunday to claim their third win of the season. Â Jaron Dougherty, Shannon Titus and Amoria Neal-Tysor each contributed double-digit point performances to lead the Bears to the victory. In that third quarter, Mercer shot nearly 65% percent (64.7) to take a lead they would not give up to secure the result.
Series History
This is the sixth meeting between the Bears and Crimson Tide. The hosts hold the 4-1 series lead and have taken the last three meetings, including a 78-61 decision in last season's showdown in Hawkins Arena last December. Titus and Dougherty scored 21 and 20 points, respectively, in the defeat in the previous matchup, while Alabama's Ariyah Copeland sank 26 points to the Crimson Tide's cause.
New Season, New Bears
There will be plenty of new faces at Hawkins Arena for the 2021-22 season, as Mercer welcomes eight new student-athletes – Kinley Fisher, Endia Banks, Erin Houpt, Erin Gutierrez, Kassidy Jones, Nigeria Harkless, Ashlee Locke and Lauren McNamara-Clement – to campus.
Scouting the Crimson Tide
Alabama comes into the game at .500 with a 2-2 record. Brittany Davis leads the Tide with 81 points at 20.3 per contest, as well as 30 boards – with an impressive 18 of them coming on the defensive end. A season ago, the Crimson Tide fell to second-seeded Maryland in the Round of 32 in the NCAA tournament.
