Mercer loses to Chattanooga
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears were defeated by the Chattanooga Mocs in a five-set match.

Set One (25-17)Â | The Bears started set one at a five-point deficit after a quick 5-0 run from the Mocs. A kill by Annie Karle would put the Bears on the board with a kill from Taylor Lynch soon after, closing the gap to three points. The Mocs would go on another run of three, taking a six point lead before a run of three from the Bears would put them within three, 10-7. Later in the set, an additional run of three from the Mocs would extend their lead back to six, 17-11. The Mocs would score four points in a row to take an eight-point lead of 21-13. Despite final efforts from Lynch, Lexi Uhrhan, and Rayanne de Oliveira the Mocs would take the first set, 25-17.
Set Two (25-13) | A kill from de Oliveira would put the Bears on the board. A block by de Oliveira and Lynch followed by a service ace from de Oliveira would give the Bears a one-point lead, 3-2. The Bears would extend their lead to five after a 6-0 run, 9-4. Within this run, Agnieska Paskevic recorded one kill, Jaida Howell (2), and Brittany Major registered three kills in a row. The teams would trade points before another run of three would put the Bears in the lead by eight, 17-9. de Oliveira assisted with two points with Lynch and Howell recording a block together. A final 5-0 run from the Bears allowed them to lead by 12, 24-12. Howell helped with two kills along with a service ace from Major. Howell would close the set with a kill.
Set Three (26-23)Â | After trading small runs of two and three, a 3-0 run with kills from Major and Lynch would put the Bears up one, 5-4. The Mocs responded tying the game and would keep it tied through traded points. Three unanswered points from the Bears would give a three-point lead but the Mocs would work to tie the game again at 10. The teams would go back and forth, tying the game three additional times before small runs from the Mocs would give them at-most a lead of three, 17-14. The Bears would trail by two before kills from de Oliveira, Howell, and Lynch allowed them to take the lead, 22-21. The game would be tied twice at 22 and 23 but a closing run of three would give the Mocs set three, 26-24.
Set Four (25-22)Â | The Bears would start the scoring in the fourth set with a kill by de Oliveira. A 3-0 run would allow the Mocs to lead by two before a run of four gave the Bears the lead, 8-6. A 3-0 run would follow, extending the Bears lead to four, 11-7. In these two runs, de Oliveira recorded three kills with Karle following with two. A 8-2 scoring drive would give the Bears a lead of nine, 19-10. Howell assisted with two kills, de Oliveira (1), Karle with a service ace and a block with de Oliveira. The Mocs would score six in a row but offensive work from Lynch (1), Karle (2), and Paskevic would keep the Bears in the lead by five, 23-17. A run of four b the Mocs would bring the game within two but a kill from Karle would end the set in favor of the Bears.

Lynch and Karle recorded kills along with a service ace from Major. Back-to back kills from Karle would tie the set at nine. A block by de Oliveira and Karle tied the game at 10 and a kill from Karle would tie the game again at 11. The Mocs would take a two-point lead before a kill from Howell and a block from Howell and Major tied the game at 14. Karle assisted with two kills to tie the game at 16 and 17 before two kills from the Mocs would give them the five set, winning the match.
