Mercer defeats ETSU
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears defeat the ETSU Bucs in three straight to maintain a 11-3 record within the conference. "Very nice bounce back win after a highly emotional senior night match on Friday night," said Head Coach Dex Schroeder. "Looking forward to a week where we get to go to Sanford, where the conference round is. This is their week to do a trial run there."

Set One (25-21)Â | A block by Taylor Lynch would start the first set. Following a point from ETSU, the Bears would record five points in a row to take a five-point lead, 6-1. Rayanne de Oliveira and Lynch would register kills along with a service ace from Annie Karle. Points were traded before a 4-0 run from the Bucs would put them within one, 8-7. Two straight points from the Bucs would tie the set at nine with two additional ties before an attack error and a service ace from Karle would put the Bears back in the lead b two, 13-11. The back and forth would continue resulting in another tie score of 16 before the Bears would score four in a row to regain a lead of four, 20-16. Three of the last five points for the Bears would be by kills from Lynch, allowing the Bears to take the first set.
Set Two (25-16)Â | The second set started with nine unanswered points by the Bears. de Oliveira would start the run with a kill followed by back-to-back kills from Brittany Major. Jaida Howell would register three kills within this run along with a kill from Lynch and service ace from de Oliveira, 9-0. Â Within this set, Megan Smith would record a kill and service ace, Agnieska Paskevic registered two kills, and Lexi Uhrhan recorded a service ace. . The Bears maintained their lead throughout the entire set, ending on a 3-0 run including a kill from Lynch and blocks by Lynch, de Oliveira (2), and Major.
Set Three (25-23) | While the Bucs would be the first to record points in this set, a block by Lynch and de Oliveira and a service ace by de Oliveira quickly tied the game at three. The Bucs would lead by at-most, three points before a 3-0 run from the Bears tied the set at nine. Karle recorded a kill and a block with de Oliveira. The Bears would take the lead with another 3-0 run including back-to-back kills from de Oliveira, 12-10. Kills from Howell (2), and Karle and a block by de Oliveira allowed the Bears to stay in the lead by three, 19-16. A 3-0 run from the Bucs would tie the set at 19 before a kill from Karle and a block by Lynch and de Oliveira put the Bears back on top by two, 21-19. Points would be traded until the end with a block and kill by Howell closing the set, giving the match to the Bears.
