Bears Earn Road Win Against Kennesaw State

Mercer wins, 73-71, in KSU Convocation Center.
KENNESAW, Ga. –  The third season of the Greg Gary era earns its first road win of the 2021-2022 season over Kennesaw State, 73-71, while four Bears scored in double digits. Â
Mercer (4-4, 0-0 SoCon) made great separation from Kennesaw State with a 6-0 run with 1:06 left in the first half. The Bears then used three key trips to the line from James Glisson III, Felipe Haase, and Neftali Alverez to secure the victory. Mercer was led by Jalen Johnson's 18 points as he went 4-6 from behind the arc. Kamar Robinson and Jovan Tucker are not to be forgotten as they were key factors on the defensive end tonight with paramount rebounds and impressive forced turnovers. Felipe Haase scored 16 points while shooting 67% from deep and James Glisson III added to the Bears with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Mercer held the Owls to just 7-of-26 shooting from deep. The Bears will now face Georgia State on Saturday in Macon at 2 p.m. for the annual 478 Game.

Kennesaw State (3-5, 0-0) are given their 10th straight loss to the Bears since 2013. Nevertheless, the Owls won the tip and the started off strong. KSU head the lead for the first 16 minutes until a layup made by Felipe Haase made it 27-26. From there, the Bears would only lose the lead one more time for the remainder of the game and at one point hold their highest lead of 10 for the second time with 5 minutes left in the second half. The Owls were led by senior Spencer Rodgers with 23 points with the next highest scoring Owl being Terrell Burden with 13. The Owls are now set to play fellow SoCon team, Wofford in Spartanburg on Sunday.Â
