Cook has tallied nine points through three spring matches.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Kendall Cook earned the first Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week award for the 2020-21 season. The freshman from Alpharetta, Ga., has scored four goals and added an assist in three spring matches. Â
After becoming acclimated to the college game in Mercer's fall matches, Cook has made her name known to start the spring. Cook's stellar played ensured Mercer would leave Betts Stadium with a win in each of its two matches following a 2-1 setback against UAB. The freshman, who can play both forward and midfielder, placed four of her 11 shots in the back of the net in the two victories.
Cook recorded a hat trick along with an assist in a dominant 13-0 win over Wesleyan, scoring directly off a corner kick less than a minute into the match. She tallied back-to-back second half goals to once again make her presence known. She scored her second goal of the match less than three minutes in the final half and put the ball in the back of the net from the left edge of the 18 in the 54th minute. Cook's hat trick helped Mercer score the most goals in the Tony Economopoulos era.
On Sunday, the Bears battled in-state rival Kennesaw State, and Cook's goal in the 54th minute proved to be the eventual game-winner. Ally Fordham played the ball to Ciara Whitley who sent the ball to Cook on the left edge of the 18. Cook successfully fired a shot past KSU's Dylan Paxton for the goal, her fourth of the year. She currently ranks second among all Southern Conference offensive players with a pair of game-winning goals and third in the league in total goals (4) along with Fordham.
Cook and the Bears will return to action on Sunday when they close out a three-game home stand with 5 p.m. match against the Troy Trojans.
