Payton Schanen Named Women’s Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer's Payton Schanen has been named the Southern Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for all spring competition through Feb. 23. The selection is made by the conference office.

Schanen opened the spring slate by earning her third career tournament title at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational, which was hosted by the Bears from Feb. 19-21. The graduate student from Alpharetta, Georgia, shot 1-over-par 217 with a 72.33 average per round, leading her to her second outright individual victory and her first title since winning the FGCU Eagle Invitational in 2016 as a freshman. Schanen led Mercer to a third-place finish out of 15 teams, just four strokes behind North Florida and two behind Old Dominion.

This marks her third golfer of the week honor.

Mercer returns to action from next weekend as the Bears head to the Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla., for the Florida State Match-Up. The three-day tournament begins on Friday and concludes on Sunday.
