Mercer to Host Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday Afternoon

MACON, Ga. – For the second consecutive weekend, the Mercer Bears will play in Five Star Stadium. This weekend, the Bears will host Lenoir-Rhyne at 4 p.m.

The two programs have never met. The Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne will consider Saturday's contest an exhibition while it will count in the win-loss column for Mercer.
SCOUTING MERCER
Mercer is coming off a tough 9-7 loss to the Bellarmine Knights in last weekend's season opener. Although both teams compete in the Southern Conference, it was a non-conference matchup. Collin Stewart led the Orange & Black as the played a hand in four of the Bears' seven goals. He took three shots and two found the back of the net, and he also assisted on a pair of goals. Five players – Nick Rockefeller, Will McCarthy, Taylor Dooley, Patrick Marks and Ashton Wood – also scored. Wood was nearly automatic on the X, winning 18-of-19 face-offs. He led the team with 11 ground balls. Colin Kelley made six stops in the loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne enters the year ranked eighth in the NCAA Division II USILA poll. Three players – Eric Dickinson, Zach Bodeau and Myles Moffat – received USILA All-America honors. In 2020, the Bears started the year 6-1 with Dickinson taking over the top spot in South Atlantic Conference history in goals and points. As a junior, the attackman scored 21 times in seven contests and also assisted on 17 goals for a total of 38 points. His 21 scores were second on the team to Moffat who found the back of the net on 23 occasions. Lenoir-Rhyne was voted the 2021 South Atlantic Conference preseason favorite, receiving 10-of-11 first-place votes.Â

- The Bears will close out a two-game home stand on Saturday. Mercer's first road trip of the year is slated for Feb. 13 when it travels to Durham, N.C. to take on Duke.
- After Saturday, the Bears will not return to Five Star Stadium until February 28 when they open Southern Conference play against Jacksonville.
- Collin Stewart leads the team in goals (2), assists (2) and points (4).
- Mercer's 11 a.m. contest against Bellarmine last weekend was the first NCAA Division I lacrosse game of the 2021 season.
