Mercer Heads to Chapel Hill to Face No. 1 North Carolina

Bears and Tar Heels meet for the first time
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's lacrosse team will head to Chapel Hill, N.C. for a game against No. 1 North Carolina on Saturday on Dorrance Field. The game is set for 1 p.m.

This is the first meeting between the Mercer Bears and the North Carolina Tar Heels. The two were set to meet last April, but was canceled due to Covid-19.Â

ABOUT THE BEARS
Mercer is coming off a dominant 20-5 win over the Wofford Terriers to give the Bears their first conference win. Hailey Rhatigan scored four goals against Wofford, bringing her career total to 96. With four more goals, she will become the fifth player in Mercer history to hit the century mark. Freshman Maddi Koury has continued to be the leader in assists with a total of nine on the season. Midfielder Kileigh Casey has snagged nine groundballs on the season, the most on the team. Three Bears have double-digit draw controls. Erin Degnan leads with 13, followed by Lily Morin with 12, and capped off by Sami Van Slyke with 11. Goalie Iseabal Cryne had a 1.000% save percentage against Wofford. She stopped three goals on three shots faced.

SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA
North Carolina is coming off a 15-5 win over No. 24 James Madison on Sunday. Three Tar Heels had a multi-goal game. Katie Hoeg led with five goals, followed by Jamie Ortega with four, and Scottie Rose Growney with three. Goalie Taylor Moreno saw all 60 minutes between the pipes, stopping eight balls and only allowing five. Defender Kayla Wood led with three groundballs and three caused turnovers. On the season, Ortega leads the Tar Heels with 38 goals and 52 points. Hoeg leads with 27 assists. Caroline Wakefield has 12 caused turnovers on the season, the only player to have double-digits. Jenny Levy is in her 26th season at the helm of North Carolina.

The Bears will head to Dover, Del. For their second Southern Conference game against Delaware State on Thursday, April 1.
