Mercer Falls to Top Ranked Tar Heels

Three Bears scored against North Carolina
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Mercer women's lacrosse team fell to the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Mercer Bears fought hard against the top ranked North Carolina Tar Heels in the first half. The Tar Heels kept possession of the ball for the majority of the first 30 minutes. Iseabal Cryne started in the cage for the Bears. During her time in the cage, she registered two saves. Sophomore Kathryn Vanderlinde saw the last 10 minutes in the cage and stopped one goal. Hailey Rhatigan shot the ball five times. Hannah Lind was the lone Bear to have a caused turnover in the first half.
The Bears first goal of the game came at the 25:33 when Hailey Rhatigan's free position shot found the back of the net. Shortly after, Maddi Koury would be fouled and go to the 8-meter line. Koury's 8-meter would be good and the Bears would have two on the board. The Black and Orange would continue their scoring run when Haley Gerold would score on the Tar Heels. Gerold's goal would be the final one for the Bears.

Mercer will head to Dover, Del. For their second Southern Conference game against Delaware State. The Bears and Hornets are set to play on Thursday, April 1 at 1 p.m.

- Hailey Rhatigan's goal in the game brings her career total 97. She is now three goals away from becoming the fifth player in Mercer history to score 100 career goals.
- Iseabal Cryne had five saves on the game while Kathryn Vanderlinde had one.
- Four Bears had a caused turnover against the Tar Heels. Iseabal Cryne, Kileigh Casey, Isabella Yagodich, and Hannah Lind each had one caused turnover.
- Cryne led the team with four groundballs.
- Kayla Soltys led the tea with six draw controls, followed by Chloe Schaeffer with three, and Erin Degnan with one.
