Mercer earn its sixth win of the season

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team defeated Florida A&M, 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon. The win for Mercer is its sixth win of the season.

Mercer jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as they took the doubles point. Mary Courville and Ericka Chavarria won 6-2, in No. 3 doubles. Lauren Rich and Alara Hollyfield were the next match down with a 6-4 victory. The Bears earned the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win by Lekha Varudandi and Kristin Yordanova in No. 2.

Once the match went to singles, Mercer jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Yordanova won 6-1, 6-0 over Adrienne Clayton in No. 5 singles. Ashley Popham followed suit with a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 6 singles, extending the Bears lead to 3-0.

Alara Hollyfield clinched the win for Mercer with a win in the top flight. She won 6-3, 6-0, over Haleigh Porter in No. 1 singles. The winning continued for the Bears in singles play as Lauren Rich and Mary Courville followed with wins. Rich won, 6-0, 4-6 1-0 (10-8), while Courville won 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-1).
