Bears End Conference Slate with Chanticleers

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's lacrosse team will head to Conway, S.C., for their last conference game against newcomers Coastal Carolina on Friday at 1 p.m.

This is the sixth meeting between Mercer and Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers have won all previous meetings.

ABOUT THE BEARS
The Bears are coming off a 12-18 loss against Furman on Sunday. Lily Morin led the Bears with four goals in the game against Furman. She registered a 1.000% shot on goal percentage. Two of her goals came from free-position shots. Iseabal Cryne saw all 60 minutes between the pipes for the Black and Orange. She registered nine saves and three groundballs. Erin Degnan and Lily Morin each won seven draw controls. The two sit at the top of the team, Degnan with 31 and Morin with 22. Degnan also sits at the top of the SoCon with 3.44 draw controls per game. As a team, Mercer is at the top of the Southern Conference in draw controls per game and shot percentage. The Bears are averaging 13.44 draw controls and have a .490 shot percentage. Their .490 shot percentage also puts them 12th in the nation. The Black and Orange are ranked fifth in the nation for free position percentage. Mercer has a 0.556 free position percentage.

Coastal Carolina is coming off a heartbreaking 13-14 loss at Liberty on Saturday. In the game, Kayla Downey led the Chanticleers with five goals. She was followed by Avery Snyder with three, Samantha Courtemanche with two, and Avery Drouin, Abi George, and Abbey Buchanan with one. Courtemanche added five assists with her two goals to lead with seven points. Haley Wells and Kayla Downey each snagged three groundballs each. Three Chants had a caused turnover against Liberty; Kayla Downey, Avery Drouin, and Anya McSorley. McSorley led the team with seven draw controls. Claire Martell saw all 60 minutes in the cage for the Chants. She registered 10 saves. Kristen Selvage enters her sixth season at the helm of the Chanticleers.

NEXT UP
The Bears will stay home and welcome Kennesaw State for a rematch on April 24. Mercer will honor the 2021 senior class prior to the game. Â
