Women’s Tennis Takes on Samford and Western Carolina

Mercer plays Samford and Western Carolina in SoCon matchups this Friday and Sunday
MACON, Ga – The Mercer women's tennis team closes out the 2021 regular season this weekend when they host Samford on Friday and Western Carolina on Sunday.

Scouting Samford
The Bulldogs are 12-10 overall on the season and 2-3 in Southern Conference play. Samford is coming off a 6-1 victory over Western Carolina on Wednesday.
 
In singles play this season, Samford is 65-63 overall. Rouxanne Van Rensburg plays the top flight for the Bulldogs and has a record of 14-6. Natalia De Ugarte plays No. 2 singles for Samford and currently has a 9-8 record in that role.
 
In doubles play this season the Bulldogs are 36-25 overall . The squad is led by Rouxanne Van Rensburg and Alexis Lopez, who play in the No. 1 flight for Samford. The duo is currently 12-4 overall. Natalia De Ugarte and Alexis Lopez play No. 2 doubles for the Bulldogs and are 9-3.
 
Scouting Western Carolina
Western Carolina enters the weekend with an overall record of 9-7 this season and is 1-4 in SoCon play. They are coming off of a loss against Samford on Wednesday, falling to the Bulldogs, 6-1. The Catamounts are 1-4 in the SoCon with their lone win coming against UT Chattanooga.
 
In singles play, Western Carolina is 47-49 on the season. Kata Foldeak has played all her matches at No. 1 singles and holds an 8-7 record. Anotnella Benavides is 10-6 on the at No. 4 and 5 singles. Benevides' 10 wins are the most on the team.
 
In doubles play, the Catamounts are 22-25 overall. Julia Pezzuco and Jacy Smith lead the team with five doubles wins, all coming at No. 1 doubles.
