Bears Travel to High Point on Saturday

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears will travel to High Point, N.C., to take on the High Point Panthers on Saturday as they look to pick up their second Southern Conference win of the season.

SERIES HISTORY
Mercer is 3-5 against High Point and is looking to snap a two-game losing streak. The Bears and Panthers did not meet in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the last meeting between the two teams, High Point earned a 17-16 victory in Five Star Stadium.
SCOUTING MERCER
Mercer last played on April 3 and defeated Air Force, 15-13, in Colorado. The victory was Mercer's first Southern Conference win of the 2021 slate and helped the Orange & Black even their road record at 2-2 overall. Will McCarthy leads the Bears with 17 goals and ranks ninth in the conference with an average of 1.89 goals per game, but Michael Quinn paces the team with 21 points on 13 goals and 8 assists. Collin Stewart (11 goals) and Sean Goldsmith (10 goals) have also scored double-digit goals for Mercer. Ashton Wood leads all SoCon face-off specialists with a .604 winning percentage and is also tops in the conference with 80 groundballs. Colin Kelley has started all nine games between the pipes and made 115 saves. Â
SCOUTING HIGH POINT
High Point is 3-5 overall but all five of its defeats have come against nationally ranked foes. The Panthers are coming off a 13-5 win over Bellarmine on April 3, a game in which Asher Nolting set the Panthers' singe game record with eight assists and earned SoCon Offensive Player of the Week honors. Nolting leads the Panthers with an incredible 29 assists and 48 points. His 19 goals rank second behind Kevin Rogers' 22 scores. Among the SoCon leaders, Nolton leads all player in points per game (6.00) and assists per game (3.62) while  Rogers (2.75), Nolting (2.38) and Brandon Mayea (2.25) are second through fourth in goals per contest. In goal, both Parker Green and Antonio Arcona have seen significant action. Green has made 56 stops and is 2-3 overall while Arcona is 1-2 with 35 saves.  Â
