
Bears Honor Seniors with Dominant Win Over Owls

Five Bears scored three or more goals
MACON, Ga. – With five Bears scoring three or more goals, the Mercer women's lacrosse team defeated the Kennesaw State Owls, 18-9, Saturday afternoon on senior day.
The Black and Orange got off to a slow start, falling 3-0 in the first 10 minutes. Freshman Maddi Koury got the Bears on the board with an unassisted goal at the 18:12 mark. The Owls would score two more to make it a 5-1 game, but the Bears wouldn't stay down for long. Withing a two-minute span, Mercer would score three unanswered goals to make it a one goal game. Eva Thorn score her first goal of the game, followed by two goals from Hailey Rhatigan. After Rhatigan's first goal, Kathryn Vanderlinde came in between the pipes for the Bears. With the Black and Orange down by one, Maddi Koury stepped up and found the back of the net to tie the game just under the two-minute mark. The Bears and Owls would enter the half with five goals each.

Hailey Rhatigan started the scoring for the Bears 51 seconds into the second half with an unassisted goal. Lily Morin followed suit after being fouled and earning a free position shot. Morin would score her first goal of the game on the 8-meter. Morin would stay hot and score another goal two minutes later. The Bears would grow their lead by four after Eva Thorn found the back of the net 30 seconds after Morin did. The Owls would stop Mercer's scoring run and score two of their own and cut the Bears lead to two. Less than 30 seconds after the Owls goal, Lily Morin would score her third goal of the game. After a 3:40 scoring drought from both squads, Koury would find Shannon Urey who would score her first goal of the game. Another three minutes would go by and Urey and Koury would switch roles. Shannon Urey found Maddi Koury and put it past Kennesaw State's goalie. At the 11:50 mark, it was a repeat of the last goal. Koury would score her fourth goal of the game with an assist from Urey. Shannon Urey would score her second goal of the game with an assist from Katie Ryan. The Bears would take a 14-8 lead. Urey's third goal and second hattrick of the season would come at the 7:52 mark. The Owls would answer with one goal to cut the lead to six. Eva Thorn would become the fifth Bear to score three or more goals in the game. After getting fouled by the Owls, Lyndsey Lewis would head to the 8-meter and join the scoring club for Mercer. The Bears last goal of the game would come from Lily Morin with less than a minute to go. The Bears would defeat the Owls 18-9.
