Rodriguez Olvera ran at Lanier High School.
MACON, Ga. – Annette Rodriguez Olvera signed her National Letter of Intent to run at Mercer University, head cross country coach Josh Hayman announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
Rodriguez Olvera is the second women's runner to join the program. Coach Hayman signed Jones County High School's Laney Doster in November.
Â
Rodriguez Olvera ran three seasons of varsity cross country at Lanier High School for coaches Bob Gardner and Rob Blaszkiewicz. An all-region selection in 2020, she led Lanier to a region runner-up finish during her senior season and set a personal best of 20:31 during her final cross country campaign.
Â
The speedy Rodriguez Olvera also had ample success during track season, winning championships in both the 1600 and 3200-meter races. She set PRs in both events as a senior, running the 1600 in 5:25 and the 3200 in 11:25. Rodriguez Olvera also competed in the 800-meter run with her personal best being 2:34.
Â
"Annette is an incredible addition to our program," said Hayman. "She is a late bloomer who recorded her best times late in her high school career. I believe she is ready to step on the course and make an immediate impact for us. Not only will she compete as a runner, but she is a great student who has set challenging but achievable goals. I am glad that she chose Mercer and can't wait for her to get to campus."
Â
Rodriguez Olvera is the daughter of Juan Rodriguez and Edith Olvera. She has two siblings, Alicia and Jennifer. She will graduate from Lanier High School with honors and plans to major in Kinesiology with a Pre-Physical Therapy track.
