Mercer Tennis Earns ITA Academic Honors

The women’s and men’s teams, along with 12 individuals, honored by ITA
MACON, Ga. – Mercer women's tennis and men's tennis were named ITA All-Academic Teams and 12 total tennis student-athletes were recognized when the organization released its academic honors Monday afternoon.

Academia is a key aspect of the college tennis experience. Collegiate tennis players add to the rich intellectual community found on college campuses across the nation.

Seven women's tennis student-athletes – France Antezana, Ericka Chavarria, Mary Courville, Alara Hollyfield, Ashley Popham, Lauren Rich, and Maeva Roquebert – were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. The seven were the third most in the SoCon.

Carver Arant, Samuel Barrow, Lucas Wayenburg, Daniel Krashin and Samuel Macleod represented the Bears as All-Academic Student-Athletes on the men's side. With having five, Mercer had the third most in the Southern Conference.

With 12 combined student-athletes recognized, Mercer had the second most players represented in the Southern Conference.

Our student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2021, 1054 Division I Men student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 145 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. Compared to the previous year, 75 more Division I men received the distinction of ITA Scholar-Athlete.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
