Bears Travel to Sunshine State for Two Matches

Mercer will take on Stetson and North Florida.
MACON, Ga. – After having the home opener canceled, the Mercer Bears will hit the road this week for a pair of matches in the Sunshine State as they battle Stetson and North Florida.

The Bears hold a 9-7-2 lead in the series with the Hatters. Mercer earned a 1-0 win in the last match, which happened in 2013.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
The Bears have been idle since the season-opening win against Georgia State as the home opener against Campbell was canceled due to field conditions. In last Thursday's win over Georgia State, Payton Schurr put the Bears in front, scoring the eventual match-winner in the second half. The goal was the second winner of her career and first since 2018. Jordyn Ebert made three stops as the Bears avenged two losses to Georgia State last season and helped Head Coach Tony Economopoulos secure win 100 as Mercer's head coach. Economopoulos became the only coach in program history to reach 100 victories.
SCOUTING THE HATTERS
Stetson enters the matchup with a 0-2-0 record. The Hatters were shut out in their season opener at FIU and lost to Oakland in their home opener on Sunday, 2-1. Jackie Fiacco equalized off a pass from Maggie Struble in the 59th minute, but Oakland took the lead for good in the 71st minute to secure the win. Sarah Grimmett and Ashleigh Wise have both started a match. Wise started the season opener and made seven saves while Grimmett made six stops in the loss to Oakland.

North Florida began the year with a convincing win over Western Carolina, 4-1, before falling to No. 20 South Florida in double overtime. Mikayla Bond made her presence known against the Catamounts scoring twice in 28 minutes in the season opener. Kate Carter gave the Ospreys a 3-0 lead just five minutes after the intermission, and after WCU scored, Thais Reiss added an insurance goal in the 77th minute of the victory. In goal, Mercedes Sapp has made 11 saves through the first two matches of the season.
