Bears Defeat UNCG in Hawkins

Mercer wins, 58-49, against the Spartans.
MACON, Ga. – Coach Greg Gary and the Bears defeat the Spartans of UNCG, 58-49. Mercer moves to 3-1 in conference gameplay and 7-1 at home this season.
Mercer (10-7, 3-1 SoCon) had Jalen Johnson tally 16 points while also going 100% from the free throw line with two blocks as well. Felipe Haase had himself a day too with 13 points and five rebounds along with five assists. Kamar Robertson and James Glisson III recorded eight rebounds for the Orange & Black. Glisson III also notched nine points on a 3-of-4 shooting performance from behind the arc. Jordan Jones, who had a three for himself, Shawn Walker Jr., and Shannon Grant all combined for 68 quality minutes for the Bears today. Walker Jr. and Grant both finished 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. A total of eight different Bears saw the court today, dubbing this afternoon's win as another complete team victory.
UNCG (10-7, 2-3 SoCon) had De'Monte Buckingham lead the Spartans with 18 points. Buckingham also went 2-2 from the line for UNCG. Bas Leyte added 8 points in 28 minutes of gameplay on a 3-for-8 shooting performance from the field. Leyte also added eight rebounds. The Spartans shot 33.33% in the second half. Kaleb Hunter and Kobe Langley combined for 11 points for UNCG. UNC Greensboro move to 2-3 in the conference.
