Bears Split Their Series with Samford

Mercer falls short to Samford, 75-61.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– The Bears faced their first defeat in nineteen matchups with the Samford Bulldogs, 75-61, in Birmingham. Mercer moves to 5-3 in conference gameplay and 3-7 in away games this season.

Mercer (12-9, 5-3 SoCon) had Jalen Johnson tally 13 points while also going 100% from the free throw line with four rebounds as well. Kamar Robertson was the second highest scorer for Mercer with 11. Robertson had 27 minutes of seen action in the match. Felipe Haase notched 10 points against the Bulldogs. Haase brought down 12 boards, recording his fourth double-double on the season. Jordan Jones and Johnson recorded nine rebounds for the Orange & Black. Jones finished 100% from the charity stripe. A total of nine different Bears saw the court today, as Mercer splits its series with Samford.

Samford (12-9, 2-6 SoCon) had Ques Glover lead the Bulldogs with 20 points. Glover went 8-of-15 from the field on the night and shot 100% at the line (3-3). Wesley Cardet and Jaden Campbell shared points and minutes as they both added 14 points apiece in a combined 52 minutes of shared gameplay split evenly. Logan Dye had 11 points shooting 0-3 from behind the arc. Samford finished shooting 31.6% from downtown. The Bulldogs move to 2-6 in the SoCon.Â
