Turnovers plague Mercer in Saturday setback

MACON, Ga. – Mercer fell short to Furman on Saturday night in Hawkins Arena by a 80-50 scoreline. Kamar Robertson, a junior guard from Alpharetta, Ga., led Mercer with 13 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals in the game. The setback drops the Bears to 12-10 (5-4 SoCon), while the Paladins improve to 16-7 and 8-2 in league contests.

Furman and Mercer alternated the game's first nine points before the visitors took a short-lived six-point that Mercer flipped to a one-point lead following seven points split from Robertson, James Glisson III, and Jordan Jones. The newfound lead for the Bears would be short, as Furman took a lead it would carry all of the way to the final buzzer.

Shawn Walker Jr., a junior out of Elizabeth City, N.C., paced Mercer with a pair of assists.

Mercer's defense did not have answers for the Furman offense, which featured five scoring in double-figures. The Paladins' Garrett Hien led the visitors with 12 points, three boards and dished a pair of assists.

The Bears sank 85.7% (11-for-14) from the charity stripe, but coughed up 22 turnovers.
